Johnny Herbert:
"This was the worst weekend of my career - but I don't mean that to sound
selfish. What happened to me in the race is immaterial. This is not a
day to consider such things. My thoughts are with our team colleague Neil
Baldry who was injured when Alboreto's car sent debris into our pit; and
with the spectators who were hurt in the incident on the startline. I
wish them the best.
"I am greatly saddened by the accident which befell Ayrton. He is a driver
whom I have always admired tremendously, and is the standard by which all
others who are currently racing are judged."
Pedro Lamy:
"As we left the grid the car I was behind - deCesaris I think - suddenly
dived to the right. I saw a space to the left and went for it. That is
when I hit JJ. I had no chance to avoid him as until that point I was
unable to see that there was a stationary car on the grid at all.
"I feel fine - not stiff, no headache - nothing. I am very lucky. I have
seen JJ and he is okay too. If the race had been stopped immediately, I
would have felt fine to got out in the spare car."
Peter Collins:
"Thankfully Neil Baldry has been cleared by the doctors and has been
released from the medical centre following his fall when Alboreto crashed
as he was leaving the pits. He will stay in hospital in Imola overnight
for a precautionary X-ray to make sure that he did not sustain any
breakages, and he will stay as long as necessary so we can be sure
everything is okay. He had a very nasty shock and we look forward to
him making a full recovery.
"Team Lotus is extremely upset by the events of the weekend, culminating
in Ayrton Senna's accident and the pit lane incident. As a former team
driver Ayrton played a significant part in establishing the history of the
team and our thoughts are with him as we pray for his recovery."
