GRAND PRIX BRITISH GRAND PRIX
             CIRCUIT SILVERSTONE
                DATE SUNDAY 10 JULY 1994
      JOHNNY HERBERT 12TH
  ALESSANDRO ZANARDI DNF

Friday 8 July - First Practice & Qualifying

Johnny Herbert: 18th - 1:29.268

"I ran a little less wing than Alessandro, but the rear end of my car was quite snappy and I made some mistakes as it was difficult to judge the handling. I didn't really get a good lap because of this. I was losing all my time at Bridge, where the car felt really nervous. As soon as I came off the power there I got into a massive twitch."

Alessandro Zanardi: 17th - 1:29.240

"I am quite pleased with the handling of my car today. I had a very good balance and it's definitely easier to drive. We are continually changing lots of things in all our testing, and brick by brick you build the house. I still beleive that the 109 has a lot of potential; the engine is very strong and the chassis is very stiff."

Peter Collins:

"We are continuing to make progress, which is an encouraging sign. The good thing is that we have now been able to bring the 109 to the point where the drivers can push it much harder."

Saturday 10 July - Second Practice & Qualifying

Johnny Herbert: 21st - 1:26.340

"Whatever changes I made to my car, we just don't seem to be able to make it go any quicker. We improved over yesterday because conditions were better but we seem to be lost, We tried a lot of different set-ups, but it didn't seem to make any difference."

Alessandro Zanardi: 19th - 1:28.225

"We are still looking for the mechanical grip we needed yesterday! We did find a little though, and while the balance of the car isn't quite as good as it was then, I like the driveability more. I think we did a good job today because we improved the car. I'm sure there is still some potential in it, but all the time you get close to something, it just gets more and more difficult to improve! You can feel that the potential is there, but then I suppose that all of the drivers here can say that ..."

Peter Collins:

"Again, we made progress today, but as I said yesterday, it is difficult for us to optimize our car with our current mechanical set-up, and that's what has hurt us a little here on a track where high-speed poise is all important."

Sunday 10 July - The Race

Johnny Herbert:

"Well, I think we made some progress today. I could run with Martini all the time, but it's always very difficult to pass when you are evenly matched, and we were very even. Unfortunately, the brake pedal travel started getting too long after my first stop, and then with 15 laps to go the engine started misfiring, then losing power."

Alessandro Zanardi:

"On the formation lap I could feel that something was wrong because it felt as if the engine was running on only nine cylinders - I think something had come loose and fallen into the throttle trumpet. The mechanics worked hard to fix the problem on the grid but I started the race from the pit lane exit and was okay until the engine expired just before Bridge on my fifth lap. This is a real shame because the car felt better than it has all year - a lot more responsive - and I'm sure that I could have had a reasonable finish."

Peter Collins:

"It was a great pity after all Alex's testing efforts, which showed in our overall race performance. We've certainly made some progress and have more to do in the same direction."
