GRAND PRIX CANADIAN GRAND PRIX
             CIRCUIT MONTREAL
                DATE SUNDAY 12 JUNE 1994
      JOHNNY HERBERT 9TH - FASTEST LAP 1:30.865
  ALESSANDRO ZANARDI 18TH - FASTEST LAP 1:31.588

Friday 10 June - First Practice & Qualifying

Johnny Herbert: 21st - 1:30.063

"I only did four laps this morning, before I had an engine problem, so right from the start I lost all that valuable free practice time to try and set the car up. Overall the car feels better than it did in Barcelona. The ride is definitely better and the initial turn-in is more progressive. But it's still not right under braking, and it just doesn't feel as if it's carrying enough speed out of the corners. It's scrubbing off too much speed."

Alessandro Zanardi: 24th - 1:31.698

"This morning the battery lead broke on my car after only five laps, so I was stranded out on the circuit and lost the rest of free practice. This afternoon I decided to go with a completely different set-up, and I had a problem with the brakes on my first run. The pedal travel was too long, so I had the system bled when I came back to the pits. At least the circuit is firmly in my mind for tomorrow."

Peter Collins:

"We had a fraught morning, one way and another, and didn't get our first decent running of the 109 until this afternoon. We came here with a very different set-up to the one we ran on the new car in Barcelona, but effectively Johnny only had one crack at it today."

Saturday 11 June - Second Practice & Qualifying

Johnny Herbert: 17th - 1:28.889

"Alex tried some diffuser modifications this morning which I then used this afternoon. After my first run I came in and we made some front suspension set-up changes, and with the revised floor I could feel an immediate response to them when I went out again. The new floor generates more downforce and grip."

Alessandro Zanardi: 23rd - 1:30.160

"I had some bad luck this afternoon. The new diffuser broke, which obviously affected the car's downforce, and so I did my best lap with the car in this condition. It is impossible to say how much time this lost me, but for sure it was quite a lot...This morning we found one or two changes and I am pleased with these we were able to improve the cars, especially for Johnny who has improved his position."

Peter Collins:

"We made some good progress with the set-up of both cars this afternoon, the 109 in particular. We've now got a good direction in which to develop it."

Sunday 12 June - The Race

Johnny Herbert:

"It was quite a difficult race for me. In the early stages I could run with Fittipaldi, but then after about 10 laps the brakes lost their edge so I had to drop back a bit. I also had a cracked exhaust for the last 20 or so laps. The car was at its best on the first and last sets of tyres, when the balance was reasonable."

Alessandro Zanardi:

"The oil and water temperature had been high from halfway through the race and I was trying to drive with my fingers crossed hoping that I would not have a problem with the engine, but it didn't work. Seven laps before the end it stopped. The car was quite good, but I just needed a little bit more speed...I am very angry with the 10s stop-and-go penalty that I was given. There were some yellow flags at the chicane and they said that I overtook there, but I didn't."

Peter Collins:

"Overall it's been an encouraging weekend for us, as we have progressively learned more about the 109. Today was another step in the right direction, and we are now looking forward to three days of intensive testing."
