Team Lotus Marketing Operations has been reorganized since this was written. Details are not yet available, however, it is known that Guy Edwards has left the Team and Kenny Wapshort has assumed a key role in the new marketing organization.
Guy Edwards was a successful racing driver in his own right, competing at F1 level for the Graham Hill Embassy Lola and Hesketh teams. He was one of a quartet who rescued Niki Lauda during his 1976 German Grand Prix accident. Since retirement from the cockpit Guy has put his skills and understanding of corporate requirements to work creating strategic business partnerships with major corporations in Motor Sport.
He joined Team Lotus in 1992 as Director of Marketing to co-ordinate the team's global marketing operations.
Kenneth was introduced to Peter Collins by a mutual friend and soon realized that there were many opprotunities to promote Formula One in Japan. At the end of 1990 when Collins and Wright took over the running of Team Lotus Kenneth set up the Team Lotus Japanese office, based in Tokyo. He was soon joined by Shinichi Takahashi and two administration personnel to co-ordinate the day to day activities and sponsor liaison in Japan. The success of the Tokyo Team Lotus office is evident by the major Japanese Corporations supporting the team.
Mike Trainor's introduction to Grand Prix Racing came from his role as Marketing Director for USF&G, who were very active in Grand Prix Racing in the mid 1980s. Mike established the Team Lotus North America office in 1992 under the guidance of Director of Marketing, Guy Edwards. Mike has worked alongside Guy Edwards since 1990, and now assists Team Lotus with sponsor liaison and development in North America.
James Gilbey heads the five strong Promotions Department, based at the team's headquarters at Ketteringham Hall. This department provides a complete marketing and press service to the Team's corporate partners to fully maximise their association with the team.
